WORKSHOPS/SCHEDULE

Workshop Schedule
Workshops and schedule will be posted as information is received. This year we will be experimenting with class size control by offering advance workshop registration. Watch for information coming soon!

ACOUSTIC FAIRE?

Our lineup of uke pros this year are all multi-instrumentalists and have incorporated styles and techniques borrowed from their other instruments. I also went outside the world of uke and asked two exceptional, non-uke artists to bring topics and techniques from their world that you can incorporate into your love of uke. So although the festival is still centered around the ukulele, you’ll encounter influences and performances from all sorts of acoustic instruments.

You’ll be able to learn the basics of melody & soundtrack writing from a Hollywood composer, and new right-hand styles from a harp-guitar virtuoso and first woman ever to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, and more!

SWING THING?

Our Swing Thing will be a combination Swing Dance/Concert with a band led by Casey MacGill for both those who want to get the blood circulating on the dance floor and for those who’d rather just kick back and enjoy a mid-century music blast from the past!

  • Vintage garb highly encouraged!
  • Swing Dance Lessons available Thursday & Friday!

WHAT'S NEW?

Festival In Detail

Four Days of Music & Instruction featuring
Cathy Fink, Marcy Marxer, Casey MacGill, Gerald Ross, Daniel Ho, Muriel Anderson, John Batdorf, Dani Joy, Dead Man’s Uke
.

It’s the Reno Ukulele Festival & Acoustic Faire with Swing Thing!

That’s a long name! What does it all mean? After our 10th anniversary bash I wondered where to take the festival to begin it’s second decade, so I looked at how the ukulele has evolved as an instrument and in its playing styles. What I realized was this: Many ukulele pros also play other instruments and add techniques from those to their uke skills. In addition, the ukulele itself is now a diverse family of acoustic and electric instruments and it is being played in many different styles.

Acoustic Faire: Because of the diversity of the instrument and blending of playing styles, I decided to infuse our lineup with multi-instrumentalists. In addition to the ukulele, Cathy and Marcy and Casey and Gerald and Daniel all play a number of instruments. I also went outside the world of uke and asked two exceptional, non-uke artists to bring topics and techniques from their world that you can incorporate into your love of uke. You’ll be able to learn about composing melodies & soundtracks from a CBS Television soundtrack composer and Atlantic Records recording artist, new right-hand styles from a harp-guitar virtuoso and first woman ever to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, and you’ll expand your uke’s sonic landscapes under the tutelage of a world music trailblazer! The level of talent at this festival is truly off the charts!

Swing Thing: We’ll also have a Friday night bash, initially intended as a stand-alone event but now part of the festival. Our Swing Thing will be a combination Swing Dance/Concert for both those who want to get the blood circulating on the dance floor and for those who’d rather just kick back and enjoy a mid-century music blast from the past! Vintage garb highly encouraged! And we’ll also offer swing dance lessons for newbies who want to join in!

* All of the above is included in your Full-Festival Pass!

In addition, we have two new, very limited offers:

Recording Studio: Go home with a professionally recorded song! I have enlisted an experienced sound engineer to set up and operate a live recording studio on site! We’ll have five slots available.

VIP Diamond Dozen Club: There will be 12 slots available for our new VIP Club, an annual option for those who want to get the most out of the festival.

Benefits include:
• One Full-Festival Pass for VIP member only.
• Admission to the Artists-Only Cocktail Meet ‘N Greet for VIP member only.
• First-access seating to our Swing Thing and Saturday Concert Finale for you and up to 3 guests.
• First option to retain membership next year and in consecutive years to follow.
Please read description and details when purchasing.
