About Schedule

Each box shows the time of day, the room, the instructor, the class name, and the level of player the class is intended for. Please read “About Class Levels” in next toggle box.

All items in black follow a pattern of times and room locations. Anything out of the ordinary is noted in red.

Class Levels

Class levels are guidelines that you should take seriously, both for yourself and in respect for others in the class. That said, they are guidelines, not restrictions. If you hold a festival pass other than Newbie, you may attend any workshop. If you choose to attend a class above your playing ability, please do so as more of an observer rather than a participant: Please sit near the back and do not ask questions. Class time is limited and asking questions that should already be known by those at the intended player level lessens the instruction time of the other students.

KEYS: A Level rating of a given number, for instance, 2+, indicates suitability for all players with level 2 or greater ability. A Level rating containing two numbers, such as 2-3+, indicates that you should be at least a strong level 2 player, bordering on level 3.

Level 1: Newbie, you need the basics.

Level 2: You know many basic chords, can strum in time.

Level 3: You Know some alternate chords, have a good sense of strumming rhythm, perhaps pick a little, and navigate the instrument well.

Level 4: You can play melodies, understand scales, perhaps tab and/or notation, and are a quick learner.

Level 5: You are a fearless, advanced uke musician.

Class Etiquette

NOISE: Be courteous to your neighbors! Please do not talk or noodle on your uke during class. Many ukulele instructors are kind and gentle souls who find it uncomfortable to discipline their students. If you arrive late, keep the door from slamming and quietly take a seat near the door you entered. If you find a class is not for you and want to leave early, again please do so quietly.

CHAIRS: Class attendance may be large, but in most cases there are far more chairs than attendees. Feel free to spread out but please do not destroy the general arrangements of the seats. Other classes will use the room after you. If you move chairs, please return them to the way you found them at the end of the class.

TRASH: Please don’t leave your trash behind for the next class. We do not have a janitorial staff between classes.

RESPECT CLASS LEVELS: If you choose to attend a class above your playing ability, please do so as more of an observer rather than a participant: Please sit near the back and do not ask questions. Class time is limited and asking questions that should already be known by those at the intended player level lessens the instruction time of the other students.

BRING YOUR HANDOUTS! Download and print handouts, if any, for the classes you will attend. They are not available at the festival due to new copyright laws.

MUSIC STANDS: You may use them. Once again, if you need to move a chair, please return to original position after the class. Some people like to use a clothes hanger with pants clips to hang handouts on the seat back in front of them. Try it at home, see if it works for you.
